University Cinema Gets UK First Dolby Atmos Upgrade

Southampton Solent University has officially launched its new Dolby Atmos technology in its 3D cinema, which will provide students with exceptional sound and mixing facilities.

The Dolby Atmos technology, which was installed during the summer, allows sounds to be placed and moved anywhere in the cinema, including overhead, to make audiences feel as if they are inside the movie and not just watching it.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2015

Southampton Solent University students have been working with event sound specialists Vanguardia Consulting to manage noise levels at the Isle of Wight Festival.

As well as taking off-site sound measurements at various locations, the group of four students worked with engineers to actively manage the on-site sound levels at the various stages during the four-day event.

Live Stream of Solent’s American Football Match

The recent Solent Redhawks vs Bournemouth Bobcats American football match was an excellent opportunity for third-year media technology students, who made possible its live streaming, as well as two sports journalism students who provided the running commentary.
